HOW IS ASHTANGA YOGA GOOD FOR YOU?

HOW DOES ASHTANGA YOGA CHANGE YOUr BODY PHYSICALLY?
With a consistent practice you will begin to notice your strength increasing as you work the muscle deep in your body. Muscle tone throughout you body will increase and your cardiovascular health improves. As your practice continues over time and you get deeper in poses you will be able to see an increase in your flexibility.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE ASHTANGA?
Traditionally ashtanga is practised 6 days a week with 1 day rest. It is also recommended to practice at the same time every day, early in the morning. Here at Elevate we would advise beginners to come 2/3 time a week as an introduction to ashtanga. We encourage first timers to attend our led classes as they are the perfect way to learn the sequence of the postures before exploring the traditional MySore style practice.
HOW DOes ASHTANGA YOGA DIFFER FROM OTHER TYPES OF YOGA?
The main difference between Ashtanga and other yoga styles is the order in which the poses are done. Ashtanga Practice follows the same series of poses in every class. Other styles will have a mixture of some of the Ashtanga poses with more added in and the order in which they are done will change in every class and will as the poses.
Is ashtanga yoga suitable for beginners / those without a fitness background?
Ashtanga yoga is a strong yoga practice suitable for those who are looking for a workout incorporated into their practice. However, modifications are available for beginners until they get used to the sequence and postures. Our Mysore classes are not suitable for beginners as this is not a led practice and attendees are expected to have a basic knowledge of the sequence while still getting guidance from the teacher.
Can you lose weight practicing ashtanga yoga?
Ashtanga Yoga is one of the most popular yoga styles. It offers an intense physical workout that helps you lose weight effectively. Ashtanga yoga focuses on muscle training and develops physical strength. The opening series includes lots of poses that require core and arm strength. Your stamina and endurance will gradually improve and you’ll have stronger core muscles.
